Description
Part 1 of the Life at 5 Series  The story continues for the children of the Life Series, now five-year olds, as they help us uncover what it takes to give a child the best chance at life. Over two episodes, Life at 5 tracks our group of children against contemporary scientific discoveries and findings from two areas of child development: childhood resilience, and the factors that enhance school readiness. The Life Series is made in conjunction with the longitudinal study, Growing Up in Australia, in which 10,000 children have been placed under a sociological and scientific microscope. Join us on the greatest journey of all...Life  Life at 5: Resilience explores families and children adrift as we discover ways in which positive outcomes can be achieved with the right amount of emotional support. In this episode, five of our eleven children face many of life's hurdles, including parental separation and the arrival of new siblings. Can science explain why Daniel, whose life has been turned upside down yet again, manages to keep bouncing back from these traumatic events? How is it possible that Joshua's genetics can be kicked into gear by getting physical with his family? Why are predictable routines important for IVF "miracle-baby" Loulou when her parents decide to separate? Will Wyatt's easygoing temperament be enough to cope with the experience of living in two crowded homes? And for Shine, how have the hardships her parents have experienced opened the door to her resilience? Life at 5: Resilience reveals the latest science on the adaptive power of resilience, finding it is not only a phenomenon of what is within a child, but also has much to do with a child's relationships with others.
