A local woman (Kelly Macdonald) is hired to draw paparazzi away from a Hollywood actress (Alice Eve) who has come to Scotland to a remote, picturesque island to get married.

The Final Season revolves around more court machinations, complicated relationships, and coup attempts. Catherine is still in charge, meeting with peasants and nobles to get input on her quest to modernize Russia. She's working on bonding with Peter and their young son Paul. Meanwhile, the sidelined Peter tries his hand at "First Husband" duties like hunting and inventing new cuisines but soon finds himself bored with his lack of power.

The team reunites but all is not well when a change of management shakes up Nonnatus House.

The pressures of modern Britain reach Poplar as a hospital secondment and a difficult birth raise moral questions for Sister Julienne. Trixie and Tom help a family breaking apart under the pressure of a son's dreams for the future.

As Poplar celebrates a white Christmas, an unexpected SOS call from the Mother House interrupts festivities. Hope Clinic, a tiny mission hospital in South Africa that has links to the Order, is threatened with closure. Sister Julienne swiftly procures the help of Sister Winifred, Trixie, Barbara, Nurse Crane, Dr. Turner, Shelagh, Fred and Tom Hereward and they are soon transported to South Africa to try and save the clinic.
